Caring for hard floors

19 February 2018

The Preparation Group’s contracting division PPC was recently contracted to polish and clean a 40m concrete slab that was uneven and pitted in the reception of a Lincoln University building.

Unusually, the specification was to show the nature of the concrete rather than reducing it down to reveal an even aggregate.

The first stage was to remove the high spots, some of which were 18mm, followed by grinding the area flat and smooth with the company’s grinders.

The polishing and cleaning process was completed with the STG450 multi-tasking machine, fitted with Surface Finishing Diamond Pads (SFD’s), working up the grades from 100 to the finest 800 and then Storm Diamond Pads to create the final sheen.

Storm Diamond Pads can be placed under the STG450 or all makes of scrubber/dryers for the on-going floorcare and maintenance of any shiny, hard surface including vinyl. Polishing concrete presents a sustainable flooring solution and the pads are double-sided, so less waste and environmentally friendly in that they use only water.
