Nestled below the Cretan mountains, the four star Cactus Beach Hotel is a stone's throw away from the water. When the busy tourist season begins in May, the hotel's 345 rooms are soon filled to capacity with up to 1,400 people.

However, there was a problem with the soap system in the washrooms.

"The company we were using provided their liquid hand and body soap in very small plastic bottles," says Irini Damoulaki, head of housekeeping. "It was difficult to control the amount of product our guests were using. This meant a lot of wasted product, the soap was being consumed at a very high rate, and the cost was spiralling out of control.

"Cactus Beach is an eco-hotel.

But the amount of plastic waste we were generating was extremely high." So the hotel turned to Rubbermaid. It selected 700 FLex Manual Dispensers, 350 boxes of FLex EnrichedFoam Hand Wash (Green Seal) Refills and 350 boxes of FLex EnrichedLotion Hand and Body Shampoo (Green Seal) Refills.

Portion-control functionality is built in to each dispenser, and both the hand wash and the body lotion provide a rich, luxurious lather, and are tough on harmful germs.

"Although Rubbermaid is cheap, it is not 'cheap'", ends Damoulaki. "It is an economical, high-quality product, and the perfect solution."
