General food waste gets the sack

On the back of WRAP's announcement of a voluntary reduction agreement for the hospitality and food service sector, bpi.recycled products has a new range of waste sacks.

sector, bpi.recycled products
has a new range of waste sacks.
The aims of the HAFS Voluntary Agreement are: 1) To cut food and associated packaging waste by 5 per cent.
2) To increase the overall rate of food and packaging waste that is being recycled, sent to AD or composted to 70 per cent.
Every year, WRAP estimates that 600ktes of food waste is disposed of in general waste by the hospitality and food service sectors. If just 25 per cent of the sector were to sign up, they could save up to £76 million by the end of 2015, and reduce CO2 (e) impact by 570,000 tonnes. bpi.recycled products has developed a range of sacks which are suitable for disposal via both In Vessel Composting (IVC) and Anaerobic Digestion Units (AD), (methods likely to be key in the eventual disposal of single source food waste). Sold under the Green Sack Compostable brand, the sacks carry BS EN 13432 approvals and are variously sized.
