Essity wins a spate of sustainability awards
31 August 2022
THE SUSTAINABILITY credentials of Tork manufacturer Essity have been recognised in a flurry of recent awards and accolades.
The company is featured in the 2022 FTSE4Good global sustainability index and was awarded a “Platinum Medal” in the 2022 Ecovadis CSR Rating. This places Essity in the top 1% of all companies to be assessed by Ecovadis.
Essity also won joint first prize in the Sustainability - Best Practice category at the European Cleaning & Hygiene Awards held in Brussels in April. The company was further recognised at this year’s Amsterdam Interclean with an award in the Sustainability and Environment category.
“Sustainability is at the core of our business strategy, so we are delighted to have been in receipt of these prestigious awards and accolades,” said Reneé Remijnse, Essity’s professional hygiene, sustainability communications director.
“As a global leader in professional hygiene it is our mission to facilitate a sustainable life while you are away from home. And this we do by coming up with circular solutions, creating more from less and by improving the well-being of employees in the workplace.”
Essity won both the Sustainability and Environment award as well as the overall Innovation award at Amsterdam Interclean for its Tork Heavy-Duty Cleaning Cloth 99% biobased product.
This cloth is made from 99% plant-based fibres that have been sustainably sourced. Besides helping companies to reduce their environmental impact it is also low-linting and offers improved performance for absorption, durability and solvent consumption.
And Essity’s Tork PaperCircle was highly commended in the Recycling section of the 2022 Paper Industry Gold Awards in May as well as being shortlisted for a 2022 Footprint Award for sustainability excellence in June.
Tork PaperCircle - the world’s first recycling service for paper towels - enables businesses to reduce their environmental footprint by 40% by creating a closed loop system for used washroom hand towels. These towels are collected by Tork PaperCircle sustainability partners and taken to local recycling centres where they are turned into other tissue products.
AstraZeneca - the multinational pharmaceutical company behind one of the world’s most widely-administered COVID-19 vaccines – was among the UK’s first Tork PaperCircle customers. And in November 2021 the service was showcased at COP26, the leading global climate change summit held at Glasgow’s Scottish Event Campus.
Other sustainability accolades recently received by Essity include the highest rating in the MSCI ESG Ratings and a silver medal in the Household Products category of the S&P Global’s Sustainability Yearbook 2022. This review of more than 7,000 global companies lists Essity as one of the 150 most sustainable companies in the world.
