Double success at inaugural Wales STEM Awards
27 November 2020
GENESIS BIOSCIENCES has been crowned a winner twice at the inaugural Wales STEM Awards on 12 November in a virtual ceremony hosted by Sian Lloyd.
The fellow award finalists included 42 other innovative companies – the very best of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) in Wales.
The Wales STEM Awards were launched last year in a bid to recognise the innovative STEM work being undertaken in Wales, address the diversity gap and skills shortage, and inspire and raise the aspirations of the next generation.
Innovation in Science Award – Winner 2020
The Innovation in Science Award is an award that celebrates ‘a clear commitment to research and development, continued innovation and future growth potential’.
A key requirement was for the winner to have created and developed innovative science products and processes that have improved the performance of the organisation.
At Genesis Biosciences, the team works tirelessly to produce industry-leading products that bring a significant positive impact to a wide number of industries.
From the range of innovative, probiotic cleaning products to the surface sanitiser range with tested & proven efficacy against COVID-19, the company's work focuses on developing specific solutions to better our lives on a global scale.
STEM Environmental Initiative of the Year – Winner 2020
The second award recognises STEM businesses for whom sustainability is at the core of their activities and whose environmental initiative has resulted in significant environmental improvement.
The judges looked for businesses that have developed an environmental initiative and have built sustainability into the strategic operations of the business.
The company was were awarded for its effective, efficient, and environmentally-responsible technologies – otherwise known as eco-benign, an initiative created to highlight the lack of impact on the environment its products have.
The company doesn’t use harsh chemicals; instead it harnesses the action of naturally occurring beneficial microbes and readily biodegradable, non-toxic chemistry.
More about eco-benign
Speaking about the award wins, general manager for Europe, Dr Emma Saunders said: “We’re absolutely delighted. It’s a real honour to have the company recognised in this way.
“Like many businesses in Wales, we’ve had a very challenging year, and despite that, our team have worked so hard – tirelessly – throughout the last 9 months to continue to innovate and develop new products.
“Those products are now being used across the world to protect people from COVID-19 and also help businesses and schools to get back to work.
“For us all, it’s just a fantastic achievement and I know everyone [the team] will be watching at home tonight, and I know they’ll share my gratitude and appreciation, so thank you so much.”
