Wet wipes and the environment

15 August 2018

You would have heard of the recent proposals to reduce pollution from wet wipes, which are being flushed down the toilets and cause blockages in drainage systems and do not biodegrade readily.

These wipes are essentially consumer-based wipes i.e. baby, cosmetic and toilet seat wipes.

The wipes manufactured and supplied by Allied Hygiene are only for the professional marketplace and make up less than 1% of the overall wipes produced in the UK.

However, biodegradable substrates have always been available from Allied and are based on tissue fibre and viscose. These alternatives, whilst more environmentally friendly, are more expensive to produce.
