Securing students’ interest in FM

24 October 2017

Trigion Security and Facilicom Cleaning Services managing director Jan-Hein Hemke is to guest lecture to the final year bachelors’ students studying Facilities Management at Liverpool John Moores University, in October.

Jan-Hein will be sharing his experience of the challenges of delivering outsourced services, with a focus on his specialist areas, security and cleaning.

Jan-Hein said: “Education and training is an important part of professional development and I am keen to support people in my organisation, and the wider industry, to have successful careers.

“Our involvement with the university brings a number of benefits for everyone. I am keen to see our industry further professionalise and we thought it would be useful for people new to, and training in, FM to hear stories from a real-life supplier. That way they will be able to better appreciate the situation from the suppliers’ point of view when they begin work in the industry.

“In addition, at Trigion and Facilicom, we deal with numerous FM companies, so this is a useful exercise in getting to know more about what is expected from future facilities managers. The new generation will also have a variety of different views and approaches which we are keen to learn about. Many of these students could be our clients or colleagues in the coming years.”

Facilicom works collaboratively with students at a number of higher education establishments to help them with FM projects. This includes supporting students who run an FM company responsible for cleaning their university/college premises. This helps them to understand the practicalities they will face in their working lives, including staffing issues and management of supplies.
