3 weird office cleaning tips that actually work

19 May 2016

Giving your office a spruce up? These weird cleaning tips will save you money and get great results - plus they make workplace chores a little more fun, says The Abbey Cleaning Service

Whether you have a regular cleaning staff or maintain your workplace yourself, every office needs a bit of a spruce up from time-to-time to ensure everything is as pristine as possible.

From keeping up office morale by making sure your space is fresh and clean to work in, to making an immaculate first impression on clients, customers and guests, a little extra TLC every now and again can make all the difference to your professional space.

But cleaning can be a chore - and an expensive one. To make your spruce up more fun, less chemical and a little easier on the pocket, we've collected three of our favourite unusual office cleaning tips which use natural, affordable ingredients you may never have considered before...

1. Make your microwave clean itself

If your employees or colleagues make good use of your workplace microwave come lunchtime, it's likely that your appliance gets greasy and dirty only too quickly. But giving the inside of the microwave a thorough clean and de-greasing can be a lengthy chore. Imagine if it could clean itself...

Well, we can't quite work miracles, but there is a clever trick you can try to really loosen up dirt and cut through grease; leaving you free to give the inside a quick, effective wipe down, with no need for scrubbing.

To make your microwave give itself a clean, mix together lemon juice and vinegar in water in a microwaveable bowl. Put it in the microwave and allow it to heat up for five minutes. Leave the door shut as the water cools, open up, then simply wipe dirt and grease away!

2. Brighten up office plants with mayonnaise

You bought them to brighten the place up, but office plants can start to look rather dusty, bedraggled and lacklustre over time. Time to give them a spruce up! It may seem like a minor task, but sometimes it's the little touches which really make a difference, leaving your office a brighter, nicer place.

To spruce up your office flora, take a tissue and dab it in a small quantity of mayonnaise. Use this to gently rub dust from waxy plant leaves to leave them looking shiny and healthy.

3. Clean windows with the daily news

Your window cleaners likely take care of the exterior of your panes, but the inside of windows can become grubby just as quickly.

If you'd like to give your workplace windows a polish with materials you have to hand, use a spritz of simple white wine vinegar, then buff it in a circular motion with a piece of scrunched up newspaper for a very impressive shine!
