Biodegradable alternative
23 April 2015
Chemical manufacturer and distributor Airedale Chemical, predicts a surge in demand for biocidal disinfectant peracetic acid, as customers increasingly look for a biodegradable and economical alternative to sodium hypochlorite bleach.

Peracetic acid (PAA) has seen a 32% sales increase at Airedale Chemical in the last two years, and the company plans to grow the product by a further 20% in 2015.
An industrial disinfecting chemical, which is now DEFRA approved, peracetic acid is used in circulation cleaning and industrial sanitisation across sectors including agrochemical, dairy, recycling & waste management, food & drink manufacture and brewery trade.
Its biodegradable qualities, along with its no-rinse, non-foaming formula and ability to sanitise at cold temperatures, mean it is becoming adopted by industries in niche applications.
The chemical has an organic compound make-up of acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide which are said to decompose more efficiently and therefore do not pollute or harm the environment or sewerage treatment systems.
