Prochem takes the strain off the train
06 July 2023
PROCHEM HAS teamed up with floorcoverings manufacturer, Forbo to advise a leading UK rail provider on keeping carpets fitted to its large fleet of trains working efficiently and looking good.

Colchester-based Greater Anglia operates the East Anglia franchise, providing commuter and intercity services from London Liverpool Street Station to England’s East seaboard counties and parts of Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
“With high footfall to user areas on our trains, we recognise the need to keep carpets looking good and fit for purpose,” says the company’s Presentation Manager, Robert Avins.
Bob contacted Prochem for advice and following a site visit to its Norwich and Southend depots, Prochem Sales & Training Manager Phil Jones wrote a bespoke training course for the train company.
Greater Anglia has Flotex FR floor coverings fitted to most of its fleet.
Phil contacted Forbo Flooring Systems’ key account manager for the transportation industry, Bob Summers, and suggested the two organise a joint presentation to Greater Anglia. Bob agreed and two separate carpet care training presentations for Greater Anglia were prepared.
At the training event days held at Greater Anglia’s Stratford training academy, Phil and Bob organised tag-teaming with advice and instructions for cleaning technicians attending.
Says Phil: “A large piece of Flotex FR had been provided which we let get soiled over a few weeks before taking it over to demonstrate cleaning methods on.
“It is so easy to clean and maintain Flotex FR, we suggested that delegates add to the soiling with eggs, beans, coffee, jam and flour which were liberally chucked over the carpet – great fun!”
Phil showed how easy it is to clean this mess.: “A lot of the magic is in the technology of the Flotex FR textile as much as Prochem products.
“It’s modern, nylon 6.6 fibre resists soil and moisture absorption to a very high level and allows for easy and effective removal, especially if the area is lightly pre-treated with a traffic lane cleaner first.”
This knowledge passed on, you can indeed “let the train take the strain” on the Greater Anglia network from now on!
