Single-step sustainable solution
26 June 2023
URIZAP IS described as a world-first development specifically designed as a single-step sustainable solution that digests, and prevents the build-up of uric acid scale, while eliminating odours.

Urine contains compounds such as uric acid, struvite (‘urine stone’) and potassium phosphate, that precipitate, causing blockages in urinal pipes, and persistent unpleasant odours, which need expensive fixes.
The trend to install waterless/low flush urinals exacerbates these issues and current treatments rely on a cocktail of bleaches, descalers, enzymes, disinfectants, urinal pods or mats and air fresheners to mask lingering odours. These don’t work to eliminate build-up and eventually lead to pipework replacement, which can be expensive and time-consuming.
URIZAP:
- Creates a safer, healthier and better working environment for staff, employees and customers
- Sustainably delivers the water-saving benefits of low flush/waterless urinals without the associated problems
- Eliminates washroom odours and blockages in pipework, with regular use maximising infrastructure longevity
- Annually up to 50% cheaper compared with the cost of consumables for waterless urinal systems, and up to 10x lower total cost if call-outs to sort out blockages and repair damaged pipes are taken into consideration
- Saves energy used to pump water around the system reducing carbon emissions. Trials have shown that using URIZAP in 1,000 urinals saves 2.8mn litres of water per year, equivalent to 3,000 kWh of energy saved, which in turn is equivalent to 1 tonne of CO2 and saves £840 per year.
- Eliminates the need for toxic chemicals – which reduces the energy associated with the production of the chemicals and plastics they are stored in, thus reducing carbon emissions
- Eliminating toxic and aggressive chemicals, avoids damage to the pipework and mitigates the downstream environmental impact of bioaccumulation and biodiversity loss
- Avoids 11,200 litres of chemicals used per year (1,000 urinals)
- Eliminates the need for callouts, reducing associated carbon emissions from reduced van and truck journeys, equivalent to 2 tonnes of CO2 saved per year from callouts alone.
- Reduces single use plastics. Using URIZAP in 1,000 urinals saves 4 tonnes of plastic per year, equivalent to 22 tonnes of CO2.
- Is suitable for both flushing and waterless urinals. URIZAP is the optimal environmentally and health friendly solution
Overall, our extensive trials have demonstrated that when applied to 1,000 urinals, URIZAP can save 25 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Just one 25 gram scoop of URIZAP contains billions of beneficial bacteria that digests limescale and uric acid build-up . Applied weekly with one cup of water is all that is required to maintain each urinal free of odours, blockages and costly repairs - minimising disruptions and overheads, while maximising infrastructure longevity – ensuring the highest-quality service.
ABS is a fast-growing, science-led organisation creating innovative microbial solutions for human and planetary value. Our advanced approach fuses chemistry and biology with engineering, which distinguishes our solutions.
Responding to the vital need for environmentally friendly waste management and regenerative solutions, we are developing specific bacterial formulations that digest organic waste which causes blockages & spills, and toxic environmental pollution in land and aquatic ecosystems.
This means our customers no longer have to rely on toxic, or industrially manufactured chemicals that are damaging to the ecosystem.
Speak to one of our experts today to achieve blockage-free and odourless urinals with URIZAP.
ABS will be exhibiting at The Facilities Show on stand FM. 3884
