Winners at the Loo of the Year Awards 2013
17 December 2013
Brighton & Hove City Council won the UK Overall Winners Trophy at the annual Loo of the Year Awards, while Richard Chisnell, founder of the British Toilet Association, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Awards managing director Mike Bone said of Brighton & Hove City Council's win: "For the third year running a council has deservedly won the top award. Brighton & Hove City Council places significant importance on provision of a range of public toilets that meet the needs of all types of users including Changing Places Toilets. Although not all new, the toilets are cleaned and maintained to a high standard and provide much needed facilities throughout the city, vital to residents and visitors."
The Loo of the Year Awards recognise and reward the very best in ‘away from home toilets', including public toilets. Over 340 guests attended the special awards presentation event on 6th December at St Johns Hotel Solihull which featured entertainment from Bobby Davro.
During the day, Richard Chisnell was presented with the 2013 Loo of the Year Awards Lifetime Achievement Award. Richard spent nearly forty years promoting and improving washrooms and washroom services which included senior positions in national organisations that promoted the development of cleaning and hygiene in washrooms.
Richard created Loo of the Year Awards in 1987 and founded The British Toilet Association in 1999. He campaigned for and influenced washroom standards throughout the UK until his retirement as director of BTA and managing director of Loo of the Year Awards in March 2008.
When presenting the award, Mike Bone commented: "Richards’s record is unprecedented and the Lifetime Achievement Award truly deserved. His legacy is that Loo of the Year Awards are now universally recognised as the UK standard for away from home loos."
Other major UK Trophy Winners included Asda, Ceredigion County Council, City Facilities Management, Danfo UK, GBM Support Services, Harrogate Borough Council, Hastings Borough Council, Highland Council, McDonald’s, TC Facilities Management and J D Wetherspoon.
