Triple award win
13 November 2015
A family run business swept the board at the recent prestigious Croydon Business Excellence Awards by winning three coveted prizes.

Chequers Contract Services was awarded the accolades of Best Business for Training and Development, Best Green Business and Apprenticeship Provider of The Year, in addition to receiving ‘Highly Commended’ for Best SME business.
Over 300 successful companies attended the Croydon Business Excellence Awards Gala Dinner, which is considered the highlight of the 2015 business calendar.
Commenting on the Training and Development Award, Steve Rapley, international trade adviser of UK Trade and Investment, said on behalf of the judges: "With a desire to incorporate all members of the community into their business, and a willingness to train each individual at all levels, this company was the most outstanding candidate in this category."
Consistently providing first class cleaning and building services to housing associations offices, schools, buildings and combining the qualities of a family business with a close partnership with its staff and clients is said to be the root of the company’s success. It’s been a busy year for Chequers gaining new corporate clients and recently merging with its long term grounds maintenance partners ‘Westlands’ which brought another 50 staff into the Chequers Group. The company has been established for twenty-eight years and is planning for its thirtieth anniversary, whilst further developing both staff and business growth.
Kate Ward, sales and marketing director, said: "It’s unbelievable to win three awards and we are so proud of our staff, their engagement and support with our training and apprenticeship opportunities. Success is a team effort and we work closely with our staff, clients, suppliers and business partners. We are also proud to be based in Croydon and really enjoy working with the local community."
Apprenticeships have always played a part in the development of the company and at present Chequers has sixteen working within the company ranging from Trainee Accounting, Business Administration, Caretaking, Maintenance Operations, Electrical, Painting and Decorating and Horticultural as well as second generation family members working within the company, keeping family values as the driving force.
To further develop staff in training excellence, the company also has two BICSc Training Academies, one at its Head Office in Croydon and another with its client One Housing Group at Arlington House in Camden.
