Town centre clean-up role December 1st 2004 St Edmundsbury Borough Council sets high standards for street cleaning in Bury St Edmunds, matching resources and equipment to each zoned cleaning area. In the town centre, a Bradshaw Electric vehicle has just come on stream.
Philip Clifford, Council fleet and technical manager explains We needed the flexibility to empty litter bins, pick up litter and carry out street sweeping, all based around one vehicle.
He explains that the choice of Bradshaw Electric PC40 pedestrian controlled four wheel cleansing vehicle was based on its suitability for the work. It also gave high visibility to what the Council was trying to do with the town centre cleansing a modern, zone-byzone approach.
The vehicle and its operator work from 10.00am until 6.00pm, concentrating on one route, but with the flexibility to revisit any hotspots.A number of strategically placed bins are used for emptying the vehicle during the day.
