Sweeps away paperwork February 1st 2005 Sandwell Council has seen dramatic improvements in its street cleaning services following trials of an advanced satellite tracking service.
Using a web-based service from telematics company Masternaut, the movements of street sweeping vehicles are transmitted in real time to council fleet controllers giving a true picture of work in progress.
The council has reported an improvement in service response times by at least 100% since the system was introduced. Live tracking allows the nearest sweeper to be identified and rerouted in response to special service requests. This has dramatically improved reaction time in dealing with incidents such as spills.
Masternaut records routes and times at each location completely automatically. This has eliminated paper records that were previously kept by drivers.
The company says the service has cut mobile phone use and costs and improved safety and productivity. More articles from Masternaut: |
