East Midlands Airport has renewed its contract with Blue Diamond Services to clean passenger and staff areas for a further year. The partnership spans eight years and has seen many changes, with Blue Diamond responding positively to the challenges prompted by the airport’s growth.

Introduction of a more flexible ‘clean by necessity’ system has enabled the company to perform increased cleaning duties with the same manpower, working around passengers without disrupting their travel plans.

Focussing on what is required rather than what is wanted, the system relies heavily on empowering cleaning operatives to make decisions on what should be cleaned based on need. This, coupled with good communication with the airport authorities and advance notice of peak passenger flows and predicted levels of terminal use, has provided a successful cleaning solution.
