Shop, don't drop with AFI
June 1st 2006

AFI Aerial Platforms helps cleaning contractors Approved Spotless Cleaning Services hit the high spots at a major Kent shopping centre When it comes to cleaning shopping centres, speed and flexibility are key considerations to ensure minimal inconvenience to the stores or their customers. Hence Approved Spotless Cleaning start work in the evenings, after the last shopper as gone home.

For the last two years, the company has used powered access machines from AFI Aerial Platforms to ensure work at height is undertaken quickly and efficiently. At a recent job, at the Hempstead Valley Centre at Gillingham, the company hired a Z45/25J from AFI's newly opened London South Depot in Sevenoaks, Kent.

The boom lift was used over seven nights for six to eight hours at a time, starting at 9pm. The first challenge was getting the machine into the centre because it had to negotiate with restricted headroom and width.

"The Z45/25J boom is only two metres high when closed, but even at a width of just 1.8m we only had inches to spare when negotiating the entrance," says Approved Spotless Cleaning Service regional manager, Guy Travers.

Using two operators trained by AFI, the company was able to easily reach all areas of the centre for high level cleaning work. The Z45 gave them a working height of 15.6m and a horizontal reach of 7.6m.

"The AFI boom lift was particularly efficient for cleaning the roof supports because we were able to move the machine all the way down the malls without having to lower the platform, saving a considerable amount of time,"Travers adds.

The Z45/25J has dual battery/diesel power options, for working indoor and out. AFI has over 2700 machines in 13 depots.
