Plan ahead to hit the heights
October 1st 2006

Access equipment manufacturer,Teupen, says that interdisciplinary cooperation at the planning stage solves height access problems before they arise. However, the company's innovative access solutions can still remedy planning oversights

The company says architectural practises worldwide contact it to devise internal height access solutions for their building projects – initially to realise architectural visions and then later, to ensure that facilities managers aren't burdened with an impossible maintenance programme.

For example, the complette concept of height access foor the new Berlin Lehrter railway station (pictured left) is a joint result between Teupen and the architects,Gerken,Marg and Partner. The machinery specified and discussed at the outset means the complete need for inner and outer areas, including roofs and facades, were met.

However, when height access has not been taken into consideration in the building design stage,Teupen has a number of useful solutions. For example, the LEO23GT has a minimum clearance width of just 0.98 m – allowing it to pass through a standard doorway. The LEO23GT model also incorporates the company's patented corner mount cage system. This design allows the cage to be rotated through 180 degrees in a horizontal plane, making it easy for the operator to place the cage in the perfect work position.

Able to handle the biggest jobs is the LEO30T (pictured above), which offers a working height of 30 m with up to 15.7 m of horizontal outreach and, in order to provide an extensive working envelope, the platform also features a self-centering teleboom with a 180 degree articulating jib and a similar angle rotating basket.
