Low in chemicals, high in fibre
April 1st 2007

Robert Scott & Sons launched some interesting products at this year's Cleaning Show: a laundry-free microfibre system that cuts chemical use, energy consumption and water waste, plus a new line of eco-friendly bamboo fibre cloths

Robert Scott & Sons has introduced the T9 Disposystem, a new way of cleaning using disposable Microfibre technology. The T9 is a cost effective disposable Microfibre system which comes into its own when there are no laundry facilities available to cleaners.

It provides them with a cleaning system that puts an end to constant restocking of cleaning materials and the filling and emptying of buckets during the busy working day.

"The T9 incorporates all the necessary equipment needed by cleaners to effectively and safely operate throughout their working day, using the latest Microfibre technology incorporated into an easy to use range of mopping and cleaning equipment,"explains Alastair Scott, director of Robert Scott & Sons. "It saves both time and expensive laundry bills and is safe and easy to use – protecting the health and safety of staff and ensuring an environmentally sound method of cleaning sensitive areas such as catering establishments and hospitals. Floors are clean and safe to walk on immediately after cleaning and both cloths and mop heads can be simply disposed of after use." Robert Scott's T9 system incorporates a Baggy disposable sweeping set; an Ergo Globe telescopic handle; disposable Microfibre Mop Head;Microvelcro Holder and disposable Microfibre Cloths – everything needed to clean floors, walls and ceilings in one easy to use and move trolley system.

Already tested and approved by two of the country's leading food and medical suppliers the T9's versatility and effectiveness is proven – disposable microfibre cloths and mops being the telling factor.

All T9 products can be used dry and a mist of all-purpose cleaner only required when tackling a dried in stain. Once the cloth/mop is full – or when cleaners are changing location – the products are disposed of, eliminating expensive laundry bills. According to the company, tests have also shown that when used on a regular basis the T9 provides significant savings including: a 75 per cent reduction in chemicals; a 50 per cent saving on labour time and a 90 per cent saving on water usage.Add to this the high costs of running an industrial laundry and, says the company, the overall savings of using the T9 are considerable.

Bamboo fibre cloths Another new green solution from the company is its new range of bamboo fibre cloths and tea towels.

Unlike cotton, bamboo needs little or no chemical help in growing, yet performs as well – if not better – according to Scott.

"Over the past year many customers – both retailers and contract cleaners have approached us looking for green alternatives to traditional products such as cloths, mops, tea towels etc.We looked into 'green' cotton, but it still requires pesticides to help growth. So we turned our attention to bamboo. We found it produces amazingly strong fibre without the side effects of traditional fibres.

"It's inherently anti-bacterial, absorbent, strong and very fast growing – it can attain a height in 60 days that it takes a tree 60 years to reach, so not only is bamboo green in using fewer chemicals, but also leads to less deforestation and provides an economically viable crop for framers to produce. It's a naturally regenerating crop growing three times as fast as cotton and therefore a totally renewable resource." Colour Coding Scheme compliant? With the new National Colour Coding Scheme now introduced across the NHS, Robert Scott is also reminding customers of its colour coded products. As a major NHS supplier, the company says its products not only help control cross contamination but also help reduce labour costs and prevent excessive use of chemicals.

"Our colour coded product ranges currently include non-woven cloths, mops, handles, buckets and brooms – all are available in a range of colours that will satisfy the new code," says medical sales manager, Kelly Fallas."Even hospitals that have invested in Microfibre cleaning systems will be able to use our Microtex range of cloths, these are already available to the healthcare sector."
