Unger outlines which types of microfibre wipes are suitable for specific jobs

Microfibre is a material that differs from traditional cloths, being made from polyester and nylon and by a specialised manufacturing process that repeatedly splits each fibre. These are then knitted into a soft, reusable cleaning tool 30 times finer than cotton.Microfibre cloths are available in different grades, with each one suitable for different uses. Below are a variety of environments with the most appropriate grade of microfibre for the cleaning need identified.

If the customer needs cloths for heavy industrial cleaning then heavy duty microwipes are the most suitable. These cloths have an abrasive quality which can be utilised for difficult to remove oils, dry dust and embedded soils. An additional benefit is a high absorbency for large spills, with this grade of microwipe able to hold several times its weight in water.

Medium duty microfibre is a suitable grade for food services and the health care industries. In environments such as hospitals or kitchens, where 100 per cent cleanliness is required, the porous nature of microfibre lifts and holds bacteria into the cloth. This makes removing dirt and germs easier, and microwipes are proven to lower bacteria levels by up to 96 per cent.

Office and educational environments need to tackle dust build-up, and light duty microwipes are well suited for tackling dirt of this calibre. Unlike regular cloths the microfibre builds up an electrostatic charge. This holds on to the dust that it picks up instead of sweeping it away.

There are a handful of specialised cleaning companies that manufacture microwipes, and a good example of these are Unger's SmartColour MicroWipes, complete with a classifying system for its different categories of microfibre.

Heavy duty wipes being the MicroWipe 4000, Medium duty being MicroWipe 2000, and light duty are MicroWipe 500.

Microfibre cleaning systems offer a high return on investment, with more effective cleaning solutions than regular cotton. They tackle cleaning jobs more rapidly and with material that lasts longer.Grabbing fine particles missed from surfaces by conventional cleaning tools, microfibre cloths lift out dirt from any pores and indentations invisible to the naked eye, such as residue and odour causing bacteria.
