Articulated boom lift punches above its weight
March 1st 2006

AFI Ariel Platforms supplied one of the lightest machines in its rental fleet to provide access in a difficult location with the National Assembly for Wales building in Cardiff..

OCS Group's Cleaning and SUpport Division needed an articulated boom lift to carry out contract cleaning work within the new building, which is being constructed by Taylor Woodrow Construction.

However, weight restrictions to ensuring the chamber's slate floor would not be damaged meant that a lightweight machine had to be found - but one which could still provide the necessary height and reach.

Weighing just 2450 kg and with a working height of 17.1m, AFI's Niftylift 170SD boom provided the solution.

OCS used the machine over a two week period to clean all the internal glass and also to carry out general cleaning work within the building.

"The challenge of this contract was to find a powered access machine that could provide the necessary height and reach whilst also being light enough to be used on the slate floor," says OCS'Peter Pace. "The AFI boom did just that."
