Green technology gaining ground December 1st 2010 Strong UK and European sales for the
Activeion ionator EXPTM, the handheld
chemical-free cleaning tool launched in
April 2010, suggest that the
professional cleaning market is
welcoming the advent of green cleaning
technology says André Krell
The Activeion ionator EXPTM temporarily ionises tap water into a
powerful bacteria-killing cleanser that also kills the swine 'flu
virus. It has since its European launch won the British Toilet
Association Awards, gained the Italian AFIDAMP Green Award 2010
for environmental sustainability, Eco-Design and Innovation, and was
awarded the Product of the Show Award at SHOP 2010, in Dublin at
the end of September. The ionator EXPTM has also just been awarded
the HACCP International Certificate of Food Safety as a food-safe aid
to manufacturing (cleaning and sanitation).
Slightly larger than a conventional trigger-spray bottle, the Activeion
ionator EXP is simply filled with tap water, with no added chemicals.
Technology within the ionator temporarily converts the tap water into
ionised water which, sprayed on to surfaces such as glass, stainless
steel, laminates, wood, natural stone or marble, breaks down dirt,
grease, food residues, and other soil to leave the surface sparkling clean
and almost totally free of pathogens. The ionised water that sprays
out when you squeeze the trigger has been proved to kill 99.9% of
common bacteria plus the H1N1 Type A 2009 swine 'flu virus on hard
non-porous surfaces. It also lifts all types of soil and makes it easy to
wipe away, leaving surfaces in workplaces, food retailers, hotel kitchens,
restaurants, serving areas and washrooms sparklingly clean and safe.
Care homes
The care homes profession has particularly welcomed the chemicalfree
cleaning provided by the Activeion ionator technology, since
care home proprietors not only have high standards of cleanliness
and hygiene to maintain, but also have to prevent, for safety reasons,
cleaning materials falling into the hands of elderly residents.
It is a fact that a third of the cleaning chemicals used today contain
ingredients that can harm people, and are often particularly risky around
people with lung disorders or dermatitis. These harmful ingredients are in
products for cleaning glass, bathroom and kitchen fixtures, metal, kitchens,
carpets, hard floors and many other surfaces.According to SafeWorkers
reference organisation in the UK, there are around 100,000 different
harmful substances recognised in cleaning products across Europe.
The use of aerosol cleaning sprays in the vicinity of elderly people is
not to be recommended, and care home managers have found that
Activeion technology helps remove such risks, simply by making such
products unnecessary in most cases.
Hospitality
In the hotel and restaurant trades, similar concerns about chemicalbased
cleaning are being resolved as hotel businesses switch much of
their routine cleaning to the use of chemical-free Activeion ionators,
thereby gaining greatly improved protection against cross infection
among staff and hotel guests, helping to avoid commercially
damaging outbreaks of virus infections among customers.
Safety credentials
The Activeion product has the highest possible safety profile as
determined by the TURI (Toxic Use Reduction Institute – Surface
Solutions Laboratory, University of Massachusetts, Lowell, USA).
Copies of the results of laboratory tests and safety accreditation are
available on request.
