Matters highlights the key features at
this year's regional event
With event partners 3M,Ansell, Arco and DuPont and
endorsed by IIRSM and Safety Groups UK, Health and
Safety '11 – North, taking place at the Reebok Stadium in
Bolton on 5th and 6th October 2011, enables people to find the latest
in health and safety information, products, services and consultancy
all under one roof.
Each year the Health and Safety Events work in partnership with
the UK's top safety product and service providers, as well as the
leading safety industry organisations to provide an exhibition and
conference programme that is relevant to today's workplace, be that
in an office, a factory or on a building site.
First-class seminar content
Always one of the main attractions for visitors is the free conference
and seminar programme which includes sessions organised by the
event's official educational partner, the British Safety Council (BSC).
The seminar topics included have been specifically chosen by BSC to
provide maximum benefit to the visitor all within a conference
programme which would ordinarily cost hundreds of pounds to
attend. Seminar topics range from communicating health and safety
topics at boardroom level and engaging with employees, through to
legal issues affecting organisations.
For example on day one of the event, barrister Christian Durham
will give a presentation entitled,'The Road to Proceedings', which
looks at protocols, alternative dispute resolution, pre-action
disclosure, advice and early cost consequences.Delegates to this
seminar will be advised on the best way to build a solid case.
On day two, Kevin Bridges from the legal firm Pinsent Masons LLP,
will deliver what is expected to be an extremely interesting insight
into the lessons that have been learnt from the first Corporate
Manslaughter prosecution. Kevin and Zoe will explain how it has
never been more important to ensure that safety management
systems are robust and senior managers understand their own health
and safety obligations.
Safety should not be restrictive but be a positive approach to
good business management. That's why the seminar entitled 'Safety
is a "Can Do" Business' is aimed at anyone with responsibility for
health and safety in their business.Delivered by Ken Smith,
divisional director consultancy Services from Arc Associates, the
seminar will challenge the misconceptions and discuss the benefits
of doing safety right to avoid any risks. Ken Smith says,"Safety
should not be restrictive but be concerned with a positive
approach to good business management; it isn't about can't do but
can do!"
For health and safety trainers, effective communications need to
be finely tuned and developed to meet wide ranging audiences at
different levels and abilities.Delivered at the event will be the
presentation from Lisa Fowlie, health and safety advisor, University
of Wales, Bangor, entitled 'Communicating Health and Safety Issues
in Training: From (Bored) Board Level to Basics'.
The new 'Cleaning & Hygiene Zone'
Good cleaning and hygiene practices contribute significantly to the
working environment and the disciplines go hand-in-hand with
health and safety. That's why for the first time, Health & Safety '11 –
North will host the 'Cleaning & Hygiene' Zone, aimed at providing
the latest information for those responsible for specifying and
purchasing cleaning products and services.
The Cleaning & Hygiene Zone, sponsored by the Cleaning &
Hygiene Suppliers Association (CHSA), a trade association of
suppliers to the cleaning industry representing over 200
manufacturers and distributors across the UK, will feature exhibits
from a number of industry-leading providers of products and
services. It also presents the opportunity for health and safety
distributors who are considering expanding into cleaning supplies
to find out further information, including details on membership
with the CHSA.The main objective of the CHSA is to raise the longterm
performance of member companies by assisting them in
offering excellence of customer service to end-users.
Speaking about the relationship between cleaning and hygiene
and health and safety, Secretary for the CHSA, Graham Fletcher said:
"There is a great synergy between cleaning, hygiene, health and
safety, for example the threat of occupational skin care is overcome
by the use of skin care programmes developed and sold by the
cleaning and hygiene industry. Slips, trips and falls are controlled
through the use of appropriate floor care preparations developed
and sold by the cleaning and hygiene industry. And so it goes on.
Every single business in the UK uses products or services of the
type provided by CHSA members; therefore,we believe the new
Cleaning & Hygiene Zone is relevant to anyone attending Health
and Safety '11 – North".
Exhibiting within the Cleaning & Hygiene Zone are; Chemaide,
who develop a range of specialist maintenance, cleaning and
hygiene products for industrial, commercial and institutional
applications; Sebo, manufacturers of the German vacuum cleaners
specifically designed for cleaning professionals, and Omnipole,
innovative maintenance and cleaning equipment manufacturers
and worldwide distributors.
Also recently confirmed to exhibit within the zone are
Disposables UK, manufacturers and distributors of a range of paper
disposables and associated cleaning and hygiene products for the
'away from home' market, and U Group, a nationwide distributor
network providing a comprehensive range of over 4000 bar,
catering and janitorial products.
Also exhibiting at Health and Safety '11 – North are; Kimberley-
Clark, the global umbrella company of many household brands that
provide trusted products designed to promote health, hygiene and
well-being, and Nilfisk-Alto, suppliers of powered cleaning
equipment such as high pressure washers, vacuum cleaners and
floor care equipment for the industry and the private sector.
