Educating urinals June 1st 2009 Green Planet Solutions' latest
product the Eco3 urinal cube
has graduated with honours
from Royal Holloway, university
of London.The Eco3, was
developed and manufactured in
the UK using naturally occurring
organic microbes.
Green Planet's MD Matt
Anderson and Anna
Simpson,
sustainability
officer at Royal
Holloway,
arranged for a
trial of the
system in
selected male
washrooms.
Simpson identified
these as key areas in the
university's effort to reduce its
water consumption, which was
35 million litres per annum.
The trial produced good
results but before rolling the
system out to the rest of the 168
university urinals, three more
trial areas were tested.The Eco3
urinal system showed an
immediate improvement despite
the urinals flushing just once
every 24 hours. Previously the
urinals where flushing in the
region of once every 15 minutes
24/7.
Simpson concluded that, by
implementing Green
Planet's Eco3
urinal system, a
saving of
38,442m3 of water
(11.7% of the
university's total
water usage)
could be saved
per year.
"I have been very
impressed with the system,"
says Daren Bezants, Royal
Holloway's maintenance
manager."Maintenance requests
have also decreased thanks to a
reduction in urinal blockages." More articles from Green Planet Solutions Ltd: |
