Virtual in sanitary February 1st 2008 SCA Tissue Europe's Jenny Turner looks at the different types of washroom required
in today's public buildings and explains how a new state-of-the-art Tork website tool
can help a washroom manager differentiate between them
On the face of it,equipping the toilets of a large public facility
seems a fairly straightforward affair:The decision-maker simply
needs to choose the most economical toilet tissue, soap and
hand towel systems on the market and install these in the washrooms.
But the reality is not quite as easy because there are many factors to
consider.
How many people will be using the washroom, for example? Will
there be sufficient space for toilet tissue and hand towel dispensers? Will
these dispensers hold sufficient quantities of products to last between
maintenance checks? And if the refills
do run out, will the dispensers be easy
to top up?
Besides looking at the likely
numbers of washroom visitors, it is also
important to consider who these
visitors actually are. Will they be smart,
fastidious,very young, businesslike,
rowdy or in a hurry? And will they have
shopping or luggage to contend with?
All these factors have a bearing on how a washroom is laid out and
how it is equipped. The task becomes even more complicated for the
facilities manager of, say,a multiplex where a range of facilities such as
cinemas, stores and restaurants all need to offer well-equipped
washrooms.
SCA Tissue Europe understands these complexities, so has added a
comprehensive new Tork City website tool at www.tork.co.uk/torkcity. It
allows website visitors to look inside the buildings of a virtual city to see
which type of washroom system suits which environment. The 25
buildings in Tork City include a hotel, airport, hospital, retirement home,
department store, arena and three restaurants. Here are a few of them to
illustrate the scope of the new website tool.
Busy public area washrooms
Lockable jumbo roll dispensers are a good toilet tissue solution here.
Traditional Tork zigzag-fold towels or high capacity Tork hand towel rolls
both work well, too, since they are high capacity systems in lockable,
vandal-resistant dispensers that are also easy to clean.
Average use washroom – Staff washrooms in larger schools also
have to cope with busy periods between lessons and at lunchtime.
Traditional zigzag-folds towels or high performance Tork interfold towels
are good solutions since they are quick and easy to top up. If
maintenance checks are few and far between, opt for the high capacity
Tork hand towel roll which will last for long periods between refills. The
Tork Mini Jumbo Twin toilet roll system will also avoid toilet tissue
running out during busy periods.
Small, average use washrooms – Compact folded toilet paper
systems are ideal in a small primary school staff washroom where space
may be limited.Mini jumbo and mini dispensers for interfold or zigzagfold
hand towels also work well here.
Department store
Busy shoppers need washroom facilities that can be used quickly and
without queuing, and there should be plenty of space for bulky
shopping bags. Since the washroom provides a mirror to the overall
brand values of an establishment, upmarket stores will want their
washrooms to be smart,upmarket facilities.
Busy, public area washroom – Busy shoppers will appreciate the
speed and efficiency of a disposable hand towel system to the slower
alternative of a warm-air dryer. The Tork hand towel roll is an efficient,
high capacity option here.Tork jumbo toilet rolls are a good toilet tissue
choice for a high-traffic store washroom.
Exclusive average use washroom – Upmarket Tork Aluminium
dispensers for soap, hand towels and toilet tissue will enhance the
image of an upmarket store.
Average use washroom – Managers of medium-sized stores can
choose between quality Tork interfold towels or traditional zigzag-fold
towels.
Small average use washroom – A range of compact, high capacity
and basic options are available for staff washrooms in a department
store.
Hotels
The lobby washroom in a hotel should act as a showcase for the
establishment's standards: the smarter the hotel, the more exclusive the
washroom should be.The same rule can be applied to en suite
washrooms, though the key point here is to provide compact systems
that provide a "home-from-home"feel.
Exclusive average use washroom – Tork interfold towels and folded
toilet paper in Tork Aluminium dispensers work well in the lobby
washroom of an exclusive hotel. Besides being smart and upmarket,
these are also easy to clean and refill.
Average use washroom – Hotel managers can choose between
performance, low maintenance and traditional dispensers for a hotel
lobby washroom in a mid-standard hotel.
Small average use washroom – Tork mini dispensers for interfold
hand towels and soap work well in en suite bedrooms and staff quarters.
They take up little space but are also quick and easy to refill, and are
available in exclusive Tork Aluminium or traditional plastic.
Wash station – Choose between the Tork Aluminium sensor-driven
range of dispensers for foam soap and hand towels or hygienic plastic
dispensers.
Arena
A typical arena should offer large, efficient washrooms for vast numbers
of visitors to use at half time. There should also be comfortable, practical
locker rooms for players and smart exclusive washrooms for visiting VIPs.
Busy public area washroom – High capacity Tork hand towel rolls
and jumbo toilet rolls will keep the washrooms well stocked during the
busy half-time period. These rolls can then be replaced when the rush is
over.
Small, average use washrooms – Facilities for players and staff can
be equipped with a choice of compact, high capacity or simple and
basic dispensers.
Small exclusive washroom – The washrooms in the VIP lounge will
be enhanced by the Tork Aluminium range of dispensers, complete with
matching bins and facial tissue dispensers.
