SCA says luxury Tork embossed hand towels and functional flushable towels are both appealing to hospitals keen on maximising hand hygiene

Proving particularly popular in high care areas are new Tork décor embossed Tork Premium Interfold Extra Soft and Tork Premium Soft towels, which both feature an attractive laurel leaf pattern.

Besides their pleasing visual appearance, the towels are softer than traditional disposable towels and this helps to encourage good hand hygiene among healthcare staff. Décor embossing involves bonding two layers of towel together using a coloured glue arranged in decorative patterns, and the fact that less glue is used means the towels are softer and more absorbent than those made from two layers firmly bonded together. The reduced amount of glue also means the towels are more environmentally-friendly than other towels.

Studies have shown that towels that look and feel soft help to promote good hand hygiene, which is vital in areas such as intensive care wards.

Also in high demand in the healthcare sector are Tork Advanced Flushable towels, which are designed to come apart quickly in water after drying the hands and will therefore not cause blockages if flushed down the toilet. The zigzag-fold towels are more robust than other flushable towels on the market which means they are soft and absorbent as well as being able to break up easily in water.

Tork Advanced Flushable towels are proving particularly popular in older hospitals with unsophisticated plumbing systems.

Earlier this year the National Health Service announced that it was listing Tork Premium Interfold Extra Soft,Tork Premium Interfold Soft and Tork Advanced Flushable hand towels for a further three years.

Other Tork products currently listed are Tork Advanced Zigzag towels and Tork Facial Tissues, now available in three pack sizes. The regular pack size is designed for use by long-term patients;"cube"boxes are aimed at short stay patients and pocket packs are available for on-the-spot hygiene.
