New risk assessment tool for cleaning industry February 1st 2005 Asset Skills is launching a Risk Assessment tool designed to help smaller business in the cleaning sector to comply with all relevant Health and Safety legislation and also to help protect them against potential litigation.
Current figures show that employer liability insurance premiums within the cleaning industry have risen by over 50% in the last two years, according to the Association of British Insurers. Asset Skills has also found that insurers are beginning to recognise that good risk assessment practice merits a reduction in premiums.
As a result,Asset Skills, in partnership with Gossip Multimedia, has developed The ‘Risk Assessment for Cleaning Services’ interactive CD-ROM.
This risk assessment tool has been specially designed to meet the specific needs of the cleaning industry, and provides a step by step risk assessment suitable for cleaning companies of any size. Importantly, the tool meets British Standards in respect of COSHH, NEBOSH (the full range of H&S risk assessment legislation) plus the ability to gain a recognised British Safety Council qualification at level 3 NVQ, if clients wish, as the product is recognised to this level.
Fully tailored to the cleaning sector, the interactive CD-ROM allows the user to provide information about their business activities, places of work and health and safety procedures, as well as other aspects of their business associated with risk, such as the storage of chemicals. The CDROM also provides the user with a checklist to ensure any outsourced company can check their partners’ completion of Risk Assessment as further evidence of due diligence and the protection of employees. The CD-ROM then provides feedback to the user about ways to improve practices to maximise security and safety and minimise risk. Discussions are under way to obtain official recognition from insurers that use of this tool is synonymous with best risk assessment practice, and that use of the tool correctly should lead to reduced employer liability insurance premiums.
The ‘Risk Assessment for Cleaning Services’ CD-ROM will be officially launched at The Cleaning Show at the Birmingham NEC, 1st-3rd March 2005.Visitors to the Asset Skills stand will be able to view a demonstration of the CD-ROM and speak to its developers, as well as having the opportunity to discuss other matters relating to training and education throughout the industry. To find out more about the Risk Assessment for Cleaning Services tool, please contact Julian Bulman of Asset Skills on using the enquiry bar: More articles from Asset Skills: |
