Be in the know – get your ticket to the cleaning industry conference
August 1st 2005

Tickets are running out for the third annual British Cleaning Industry Conference organised by The British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) and The British Cleaning Council (BCC). Held at the Renaissance Hotel Solihull for the second year in succession, the conference will focus on ‘Taking Responsibility’

Dates for this great event are Wednesday 21st September for the Golf Day with the conference and Gala Dinner and Awards presentation on 22nd. There will be individual presentations to a number of industry celebrities and the three winning schools in the BICSc, JohnsonDiversey sponsored David Bellamy Awards for Environmental Cleanliness in the built environment. Prior to the Awards Dinner ceremony there is always an excellent free drinks reception where everyone gets to know everyone else and many business cards get exchanged.

The organisers promise a star studded cast of presentations including a yet to be announced keynote speaker – rumour says it’s a Government Minister. Tickets are available to people from all sectors of the cleaning industry – product manufacturers, contract cleaners, in-house cleaning teams and domestic managers. In addition to superb line-up of top speakers, there is also a mini-exhibition where manufacturers will spend time in the break periods, answering your cleaning problems. The event once again will provide a good balance of opportunities to learn from other top professionals and time to network.

Keith Aldis chief executive officer of BICSc said: “We hope to attract delegates representing a cross section of cleaning professionals. The conference is important because a number of BICSc products are being brought to the market including the new Industry Passport Scheme”.

Tickets are available to delegates throughout the world. Last year’s conference attracted representatives from the USA, Ireland, Greece and Singapore. Already there are representatives from Greece, Singapore and the USA and ticket sales are well in excess of 200, so we should considerably exceed last year’s record bookings.

The BCI Conference really is the event of the year and our speaker programme and sponsors illustrate this.

• Robert Young – Chairman BICSc/Graham Jones – Conference Chairman • Martyn Vesey/ Keith Aldis - Industry Passport Scheme • Clare Field, Health & Safety and Phil Grace, Assoc of British Insurers • Steve Wright - The impact of legislation on my Business • Michael Newport, Westminster Council - Image enhancement to the public in Westminster • Tom May - Success Story – ‘Cleaning as a Career’ • John Brackenborough - The new BICSc Supervisory Training Solution With pressure on for cleaners to keep costs down & to work within incredibly tight margins while at the same time ensuring quality, raising their profile & becoming more professional, new ideas and solutions need to be found. Coupled with these issues is a large raft of potentially onerous environmental, employment, financial & health & safety related legislation steadily marching towards the industry, it's no wonder that cleaners are feeling the pinch.

The theme “Taking Responsibility” is aimed at getting the industry to partner, to share its various ideas, and in a non-threatening/noncombative way create workable solutions with a view to promoting them for the benefit of the industry as a whole. The industry can fight back if it wants to and needs to prepare itself with the answers before the problems hit it.

Taking responsibility for your own actions and for your own destiny is the key to successful enterprise. Doing it together as a team is the key to greater successful enterprise. Everything is connected to everything else, so working together we don't have to wait for things to be done to the industry and then react – we can provide the solutions to problems, before they raise their ugly heads! The third British Cleaning Industry Conference will address the subject of Taking Responsibility for the provision of cleaning services. It does not matter whether the operation is in the private or public sector, in an office or a hospital, a school or a supermarket – it’s about sharing responsibility for our collective actions and creating the right impression with those who view the industry in a dim light.

Some cleaners already lead the way in providing their customers with the right impression of a professional approach to cleaning and reap the rewards in continued business and profitability which enables them to plan strategically. The industry as a whole ought to be able to do this too and by doing so not only will we feel better for it we'll help to change the image of the industry for the better.

Keynote speakers at this conference will take Taking Responsibility as their theme. Do solutions lie in method, equipment, training, management or what? Are you behaviourally aware enough to know what your customer is thinking about you or your service? Can you increase productivity, retain staff, cope with client expectations and still deliver the service you want to? Are you responsible? If you are thinking of booking, get your ticket order in now before we reach a sell-out situation. Don’t miss out on the industry’s major conference.
