Train for lower window cleaning premiums
April 1st 2008

The British Window Cleaning Academy (BWCA) has developed a scheme to cut the cost of insurance for window cleaning companies that have invested in training

BWCA founder Craig Mawlam says he is often asked:"How will training benefit me?"Alongside the many other benefits of the BWCA training, there is now another added advantage.Mawlam welcomes this new initiative:"Window cleaners can now feel the effects of training immediately by saving money with lower insurance costs." The BWCA has achieved this by working with insurance broker Alexander Swan to establish a new scheme for members of its ClearChoice accreditation programme. "We have managed to convey the message to insurers that trained window cleaners are a lower risk," continues Mawlam "Members will receive increased discount based on how much training they have completed." The new insurance scheme is just the latest benefit for BWCA trained members. Aside the obvious advantage that comes from increased professional knowledge, once trained, members are also able to use the BWCA logo on their vehicles and stationery, and are given a photographic membership ID card.

They can also take advantage of BWCA corporate advertising in Yellow Pages as well as an online profile on the BWCA website.

"We launched ClearChoice two years ago to try to bring real benefits fromtraining,"explains Mawlam."We now have over 900 members who are taking advantage of ClearChoice to promote their professionalism. The new insurance scheme is a milestone because now training can directly reduce costs. Although the scheme has only been running for a few weeks,we have already had some excellent feedback from members. It is not uncommon for members to save more than the cost of the training in reduced premiums." Training for window cleaners is becoming ever more important as companies strive to reduce their liability, and building owners are now more likely to ask to see evidence that workers on their site are properly trained and competent to do the work safely.

The main courses offered by the BWCA are Window Cleaning Skills (for newcomers to the trade),Getting the Best From Water-fed Poles,Health and Safety for Window Cleaners and the highly popular Marketing Your Window Cleaning Business. Attending any of the courses grants membership to ClearChoice and access to those benefits, including the insurance scheme.
