Helping firms tow H&S line
October 1st 2007 Bradshaw Electric Vehicles has helped Lincoln-based hose
manufacturer, James Dawson, solve a health and safety issue
with the introduction of an
electric tow vehicle.The tow
truck allows large quantities
of bulky, heavy waste to be
moved with minimal risk.

Dawson, explains:
"Previously, the waste was
collected from each work station by manually emptying bins
into a hand barrow and then emptying this into a skip.The
waste is often awkward to handle, as well as being heavy, and
this posed manual handling issues.
"We purchased a customised tow tractor Model T1 from
Bradshaws which included a fifth wheel style coupling and
purpose built low load wheelie bin trailer.This gave excellent
manoeuvrability on the narrow gangways within the plant."
Each workstation has now been provided with a 360 litre
wheelie bin.The operator simply replaces the full bin with an
empty one and then takes the waste to a central site where it is
sorted and loaded into the compactor fitted with a bin lift,
taking away the manual handling issues.
Bradshaw's T1 tow tractor is capable of towing up to 1500kg
and is fitted with a 5mph speed limiter, an audible warning in
reverse, and a flashing beacon to ensure a safe working
