June 2006 Problem
June 27th 2006

Summer – problems of allergies and health.

Summer is here with a vengeance and as the corn starts to wave about in the fields and the pollen is blown about from the flowers most people find that life becomes almost unbearable and not more pleasant. It is also a time when people start focusing on their health. Maybe it’s a holiday thing or the fact that they will have to wear less clothing and need to look better.

For some though health is a major issue – the chemically sensitive, the asthmatics, sufferers from allergies including hay fever, perfumes, dust mites and the like, babies who should not be subject to strong perfumes, pregnant women who should avoid perfumes as they can enter the blood stream, the elderly, infirm or ill who are not as able to fight off chemical attacks.

In fact most of the population has some reserves about the use of something. Reading a newspaper is even a problem for some because of irritable solvents in the ink from freshly printed papers. The answer is to read yesterday’s news or to bake your paper in the oven on a low oven setting for about 20 minutes. This sounds hazardous in itself. There are some lights at the end of the tunnel for cleaning companies though.

The recent developments in 100% natural no perfume products, such as Ecogent, which is found on the DEFRA web site under ‘environmental’ holds the European wide eco flower standard. New DFC (detergent free cleaning) products are not only 100% natural, they also have only food grade ingredients, no surfactants, no phosphates and therefore save impact on marine life as well.

These types of products include such ingredients as Calcium, Lime and Rust Remover – so can achieve excellent results without impact either on the environment or more importantly on people, both technicians and clients. Just imagine how easy the training and health and safety roles have become.

Marketing such safe and healthy cleaning is another benefit as you can often reach clients who would never have considered letting anyone in their home or business with chemicals. So why make problems for anyone? In this age of blame and claim, safety and performance must be a good thing. So while they may not help dieters this summer, they will improve life for those who have any problem with chemicals or perfumes. And that seems to be most of us...
