Best kept cleaning secrets sought
July 27th 2011

Procter & Gamble, one of 11 worldwide sponsors of the Olympic Games, has announced the launch of a nationwide search to find the UK's best kept cleaning secret amongst independent hospitality operators. Titled the 'spirit of independent hospitality best kept cleaning secret,' the award will be bestowed upon the independent operator whose top tip best embodies cleanliness and the spirit of the independent hospitality industry.

The initiative comes from P&G Professional, the out of home division of Procter & Gamble and is open to independent restaurants, cafes, pubs, quick service restaurants, hotels and B&Bs. The competition will ask operators to write in with their best kept cleaning secret in making their business stand out for London 2012. One winner will be selected by a panel of independent judges and win a pair of tickets to the London 2012 Opening Ceremony.

Nick Beresford, managing director of P&G Professional comments: "P&G Professional understands that great hospitality starts with impeccable cleaning standards and where better to make a great impression than during the London 2012 Games. Our nationwide search is about recognising and rewarding the independent hospitality operator that best captures the spirit of the industry through their unique approach to providing a first rate customer experience through top class cleaning and freshness standards."

Consumer Research conducted for VisitEngland, England's national tourist board, late last year revealed that a whopping 94% of guests consider the cleanliness and hygiene standards of accommodation to be either extremely important or important. There is no doubt that a sparkling room with everything in its place makes a superb first impression that sets the tone for the visitor's entire experience. But achieving perfect standards does not happen by accident: it takes hard work, methodical processes and systems and a trained, happy and motivated team of cleaning staff.

The London 2012 Games are the perfect platform for Procter & Gamble to continue its commitment to improving the day-to-day running of small and large scale businesses, as well as improving the lives of athletes and family households around the world. The hospitality industry is home to many of P&G Professional brands and the company will be leveraging the London 2012 Games to share practical advice for cleaning and freshness with businesses giving them the head start they need to maximise this unique opportunity.

To enter, operators need to submit their best kept cleaning secret in making their business stand out for London 2012 via email and no more than 200 words to p&gpromotions@diss.net. The competition will close on 12 August 2011 inclusive. For full terms and conditions visit www.pg.com/en_UK/pgpcomp.
