Biological breakthrough June 29th 2010 A new biological urinal treatment system launched by Chemex is designed to cut water bills by thousands of pounds a year. One Premiership football club expects to save £75,000 a year on its water bills with the introduction of Chemex’s new enzyme based treatment for urinals.
The biological breakthrough will provide a major boost to hard pressed schools and colleges with annual savings running into tens of thousands of pounds. Local authorities will also be able to make major savings for public conveniences as well as offices and public buildings. The average urinal flushes at least once and up to three times per hour an hour using 1,000 litres of water a week costing around £150 a year.
Chemex uses a simple toilet block and cage which uses natural enzyme bio technology to keep urinals smell free and blockage free while eliminating the need for regular flushing. No plumbing changes are required to the urinal drains to fit the system making installation quick and easy. “Our new Chemzyme block and cage provides an eco friendly solution to an age old problem without using water other than for routine cleaning," says Sean Derrig, Chemex operations director. “As well as delivering significant savings on water costs the system also addresses problems associated with conventional urinals such as foul odours, scale, blockages and flooding.”
The Chemzyme block uses friendly bacteria which produce natural enzymes that digest the materials that cause bad odours while also preventing build up of uric acid and scale. Old scale will be broken down over a period of time and will soften allowing it be washed away, any new scale will be minimal and will be soft and easily flushed through.
