It is feared that care home standards could fall because of spending cuts – contradicting the government’s tactic to support the elderly.

A recent survey by PricewaterhouseCoopers found that owners of residential homes and home care services thought that pensioners’ expectations of what they provide are too high.

It found that 80 per cent believed that “the quality of care services will suffer” as a result of costs being cut, and 71 per cent thought there would be less choice for pensioners and disabled adults.
