Newly formed British Bio Recovery Association April 23rd 2010 The British Bio Recovery Association (BBRA) represents professional practitioners and organisations, both large and small specialising in the recovery, remediation and management of biological hazards and contamination within the outdoor and built environments. It has been formed in response to industry and commercial demand with a view to developing and promoting professional standards and recognised training and education.
"One of the primary objectives of the BBRA is the establishment, development and monitoring (through assessment), and promotion of professional standards, ethics and best practice for all individuals and organisations within the profession," says Nathan Atkins, chairman of the BBRA.
"Aimed at all levels of individual experience and organisations, our aims are to provide professional and recognised training and accreditation. Organisations and individuals in our industry have historically been thought of as 'a bunch of cleaners' by those who don’t understand the importance of public and environmental health. The Association aims to change these attitudes and place our industry where it rightly belongs."
The BBRA will be forming close relationships with other relevant professional organisations such as the British Damage Management Association (BDMA), the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA) to ensure our members receive the best support and guidance and available.
Individual member packages and membership grades range from Affiliate to Fellow, there BBRA has a number of options to suit your level of knowledge, qualification and competence. In addition to individual membership, the BBRA can offer a number of corporate membership grades
In addition to professional standards, the BBRA offers a structured training programme aimed at various levels of experience and competency. It will shortly be publishing details of its first round of Examinations open to Associate members and its first Biohazard Recovery & Remediation course which covers elements on professional standards, health and safety, project management, blood-borne pathogens, distressed housing, and principles of mitigation and remediation.
Membership is open to all individuals and organisations involved biohazard recovery and other related disciplines. Associate membership is open to all individuals regardless of previous knowledge, experience and ‘qualifications’. Associate members are encouraged to learn to the requirements of the BBRA syllabus to then take their ‘Practitioner’ level one examination – designed to test their knowledge and experience. Upon achieving ‘Practitioner’ status, individuals have the opportunity to apply for ‘Senior Practitioner’ status, by examination, in which they demonstrate a broader and deeper knowledge of the industry and associated practices.
Organisations are also encouraged to join with two grades – Corporate Associate Membership and Corporate membership (which specifies a certain number of qualified individuals).
