An appetite for dog mess
November 24th 2009

Fed up with dog mess littering the streets, Islington Council in North London is tackling the problem with its new Poover.

The Poover is a spraying, sucking, dog poo cleaning machine that sits on the back of a modified 125cc motor cycle. It works by spraying dog faeces with a warm jet of water to loosen it and then removing the mess with a suction mechanism. A fragrant detergent then sterilises the area simultaneously.

"While many residents do the right thing and clean up, there are still some people who leave the mess behind," said Councillor Ruth Polling, who was quoted in the Metro newspaper. "The Poover is another way of tackling it."
