Radio One’s Urinal Blocks feature
September 23rd 2008

Millions of curious Radio One listeners tuned in this month to meet and question special guest Mike James, the MD of Bio Productions, manufacturer of Urinal Blocks.

This unlikely encounter took place on the Dick and Dom Show, a key programme in Radio One’s weekend entertainment schedule. In what was surely a world first for the urinal blocks profession, listeners to were invited to phone in and question Mike James on what presenter Dom described as his “very odd job”. Questions varied from the outright ballsy to the bizarre and included “How many pees do you get per block?” (to which Mike estimated a “footfall of around 1000”), “Could your blocks be made with targets on them to encourage men to aim more carefully?” (yes they could, if the order was big enough) and even “Can you recognise your urinal blocks when you go to the gents by the smell alone?” (surprisingly answered by a Yes).

Dick and Dom were also keen to investigate the serious as well as the bizarre, so Mike James was grilled on the carcinogenic properties of chemical cleaners, during which time he was able to explain that Bio Productions created blocks that used bacteria and environmentally friendly chemicals only to clean the urinal pipes and eradicate smells. All in all the forum was deemed to be a big success and a credit to the professionalism of Bio Productions and its team. Dick and Dom clearly enjoyed every minute of their show, ending it with the immortal words; “Enjoy the rest of your urinal block making life my friend.”
