Obituary – Bill Brindley
May 29th 2007

It is with sadness that we report the death of Vileda Professional’s National Accounts Manager, Bill Brindley. Bill died at the age of 60, on April 6th, following a lengthy illness.

Bill worked for Vileda Professional for over 20 years meeting the needs of many of the UK’s large contract cleaning companies. As a result he was well known to many in the cleaning industry. A ‘once met, never forgotten’ character he earned the nickname, ‘Big Bopper’, because of his love of rock and roll music. In fact Bill was an excellent singer himself and, without too much encouragement, could turn out a mean Jerry Lee Lewis or Little Richard number.

He was also a well practiced raconteur, frequently calling on a fund of stories gathered during his previous career, as a professional footballer. An uncompromising defender, Bill played at the very highest level. Before signing for Nottingham Forest in 1964 – he turned down terms at Arsenal – Bill had represented England at Schoolboy and Youth level. Later in his career he joined Notts County, whom he helped to two promotions during the 1970s.

Bill’s funeral was held at St Peter’s Church in his home village of Ruddington, Notts. Attended by over 500 people, including former colleagues from both the cleaning industry and the world of football, the mourners included current Aston Villa boss, Martin O’Neil.
