Who said HSE inspectors don't have a sense of humour? August 29th 2007 Health and Safety specialist RRC Training is launching a new podcast episode on its website, available free for anyone who subscribes from 1st of September.
Topically and timely coinciding with the HSE's Ladder Exchange campaign, the podcast highlights the serious issue of the appropriate use of ladders in workplaces.
What makes the September episode different from previous ones is that regular podcast characters, David Towlson of RRC Training and John Carruthers, are joined by a real life HSE Inspector.
Mark Thomas is a policy adviser for the Slips, Trips and Falls from Height Programme at the Health and Safety Executive. In the September episode, he shows a great sense of humour by considering some of the problems and difficulties of working at height and explains the HSE`s Ladder Exchange campaign.
Falls from height continue to be the main cause of workplace fatalities and serious injuries in the UK. According to the HSE, fourteen people died following a fall from a ladder in 2006/07, up from nine in the year before. Mark Thomas says The HSE is currently running a campaign to get rid of dodgy ladders in the workplace.
"The Ladder Exchange is aimed at ladder users and those who manage the work. We want to spread the message that ladders should only be used for low risk, short duration work," explains Thomas.
RRC launched its first podcast in February 2007. This short, easily- digestible series focuses on a range of topical health and safety issues and is intended to be both entertaining and informative and to be of value and interest to HSE professionals employed across all sectors.
