400mph hand dryer blasts bugs October 30th 2006 Dyson has launched a 400mph hand dryer that leaves hands dry in 10 seconds, uses around 83 per cent less energy than traditional counterparts, and helps prevent the spread of nasty bugs.
Dubbed the Airblade, Dyson says its a healthier option in the washroom than traditional evaporative hand dryers (which use an energy-sapping heating element to dry hands) as it blows water off hands using a 400mph HEPA-filtered jet of air, then filters the run off water before dispersing it as harmless vapour.
An anti-bactierial agent is infused into the dryer's surfaces to further reduce cross contamination.
Although the units cost over £500, Dyson says the energy savings over a traditional unit, or money saved on paper towels mean the Airblade will easily pay for itself within a year, generating substantial savings over the mid-term.
