Let the machines do the hard work

Let the machines do the hard work

Swiss on a floorcare roll
November 28th 2006

Cleanfix says the Swiss eye for detail and reputation for precision manufacturing is helping it achieve rapid growth in the UK floor cleaning machine market.

With clean lines and simple, uncomplicated controls that anyone with the minimum of instruction can use, Cleanfix says its machines do not rely upon operator experience to get the best out them: they do that themselves automatically.Where several operators are likely to use the machine, as with models owned by contract cleaners, or in factories where occasional use would be made by any one of a number of staff depending on need and availability, the company says this aspect becomes invaluable.

Naturally for industrial applications you would expect more than a degree of robustness, and so Cleanfix says its rotomoulded machines are built to take the knocks.

In a range that comprises pedestrian-operated sweepers to ride-on scrubbing and drying, Cleanfix claims fast, efficient and fuss-free operation that meets the needs of the application is a given. The pedestrian sweeper range offers both manual and battery driven versions, each with large capacity and wide cleaning widths. The manual sweeper also benefits from the side brush being raisable off the floor to enable the machine to be taken from one area to another or even outside to sweep loading bays or car parks with as little fuss as possible.

Powered sweepers offer battery drive for fast and dust-free sweeping at rates of up to 3,000 sq m per hour, saving time and money, and cleaning right up to the edge of walls or fixtures such as production machines.

Efficient dust filters ensure that the warehouse or factory floor is thoroughly swept clean without throwing dust into the air to resettle upon stored goods. Dirt, dust and debris are swept right to the back of the machine where a handy drawer enables easy emptying of the large capacity 35 or 42 litres container.

Thanks to its ergonomic design the dust filters are sensibly positioned right above the dirt container and when the drawer is opened, cleaning or changing of these is easy. For battery changing or for routine maintenance the hood of the machine lifts completely off of the unit to allow unrestricted access to the battery and drive motor.

In the autoscrubber range Cleanfix truly stands out. Even the smallest machines, whilst compact, and therefore suitable for smaller areas or space-restricted premises, come loaded with features, including adjustable handle, removable tank and twin squeegees which are designed for cleaning both forward and back.

The squeegees may be raised for ease of movement between areas that need to be cleaned.

A roller brush system for non-slip and textured or embossed floors is available in this range, which in addition features a flexible tank system to double capacity without increasing the overall dimensions of the machine.

The latest series of compact machines available from the company have scrubbing widths of 43, 50, 56, and 70 cms, and come with features usually associated with much larger models, handling all floor types and applications. The smaller of these new machines are available mains or battery; battery-only for the 56 and 70 cms sizes.

Capacities, thanks to the expanding clean/dirty water tank membranes, which vary from 32 litres up to 90 litres across the series, are more than adequate for general duties on most floors without having to stop and refill, thus saving considerably on machine downtime. Brush rotation speeds range from 135 rpm to 200 rpm in the series.

The Sauber ride-on, combining manoeuvrability with speed and power, is at least 50% faster than a pedestrian model – yet its design allows it to fit through doorways only 80 cms wide.

The turning circle is very narrow at only 185 cms and with a working width of 76 cms you could take this ride-on machine just about anywhere a pedestrian model would go. But with 5,500 sq m per capacity and 4 hours autonomy, users can achieve well over 20,000 sq m in a single shift.

At 400 sq metres per hour the Robo 40 robotic wet scrubbing machine from Cleanfix is a hard-working piece of kit by any standard.

But Cleanfix says the fact that it operates unsupervised for up to 7 hours, save only for a top-up of water, surely makes it worthy of serious consideration for anywhere where labour shortages for cleaning staff are a problem or where cleaning costs need to be reduced.

Highly aware of its environment thanks to the 8 ultrasonic sensors and 3 infrared sensors that represents its 'eyes and ears'Robo 40 can safely be left alone in any environment. With 27 litres fresh cleaning solution capacity the two brushes clean thoroughly and effectively – making the machine infinitely faster and more efficient than manual wet mopping, according to the company.

Cleanfix says that, whether for sweeping, scrubbing, polishing or vacuuming, its machines are essentially representative of the precision and practicality of Swiss manufacturing, resulting in a cleaning programme that runs like clockwork...
