Holiday season brings washroom opportunity
June 30th 2006

With the UK's tourist industry in full swing, the summer months can be an opportune time to optimise washrooms, guarantee visitor satisfaction – and save money, says Lotus Professional's Emma Noury.

According to market research firm Mintel, 500 million days out in the UK and over 40 million domestic holidays will be taken this year. This is not only good news for the tourist destinations and hotels, but also for the service stations along the way.

“The washroom is one of many areas where visitors will make a judgement about standards of cleanliness and where good hygiene and efficient, reliable equipment are imperative," says Noury. "Unfortunately the high volume of visitors that tourist destinations attract can place a huge demand on facilities, sometimes resulting in long queues, an untidy environment and under-stocked washrooms."

“With the need for increased hygiene and user satisfaction, the demand for automated washroom equipment as an alternative to warm air dryers or traditional dispensers has soared over the last few years. It is vital that businesses must also consider cost and environmental issues so they should chose washroom equipment that addresses all of these needs."

Studies have shown that washing and rinsing alone only removes 88% of transient bacteria, compared with washing, rinsing and drying with a hand towel where 98-99% of bacteria is removed

“Lotus Professional’s touchless hand towel system enMotion has a sensor which limits contact between the dispenser and the end user ensuring that the towel is efficiently and hygienically dispensed," Noury continues. "Balancing hygiene with cost-effectiveness, several adjustable features also ensure cost savings. For example the length of hand towel that is dispensed can be adjusted so that only the amount needed is taken each time. Also, the sensor proximity function can be changed so that in smaller washrooms hand towels are not accidentally dispensed and wasted.”
