Cuts energy and water costs Controls to turn on lights and flush the loo July 31st 2006 Lighting management specialist, Ex-Or, has added washroom management functionality to its LightSpot presence-detecting lighting controls.
For the first time, LightSpot units installed in male washrooms not only automatically switch on the lights when a visitor enters the area, but also flush the urinals.
Previously, specifiers wanting urinal control had to specify Ex-Or's stand-alone LooSpot washroom management system to control the automatic flushing cisterns in male washrooms.
Said Ex-Or marketing manager Charmian Cvek: "Adding this functionality to LightSpot is an elegant solution. It will appeal to architects and specifiers who want to minimise the number of visible detectors on interior walls and ceilings. Now, just one discreet LightSpot unit can automatically control both the lighting and water flushing, so cutting both energy and water costs.
"There is also a significant cost saving in fitting a combined system when compared to fitting separate lighting and water-flushing control systems in the same location."
When a visitor enters the toilet area, LightSpot automatically switches the lights on and activates a valve in the cistern inlet pipe to flush the urinal.
To ensure that hygiene is not compromised during extended periods of non-occupancy, such as overnight, weekends and holidays, the system provides a daily automatic flush to ensure that hygiene is maintained.
