Wage victory for Parliament cleaners February 13th 2006 Cleaners servicing the houses of Parliament have won their battle for better pay and improved conditions.
One day strikes organised by the Transport and General Workers Union helped bring the dispute into the public eye, where it gained massive public support, plus backing from 300 MPs and peers. Their wages have been increased from £5.05 per hour to £6.70 an hour. In addition, they now have 28 days holiday and sick pay.
As of March 1st, wages will rise to £6.10, increasing to £6.70 in January 2007. Workers have been assured the pay deal will not result in job losses. More articles from Cleaning Matters: |
