Remember: put in car, not on floor I know, let's use petrol! August 30th 2006 A Scunthorpe man demonstrated an original interpretation of ‘giving it a bit of elbow grease,’ blowing up his house while attempting to clean glue off his kitchen floor. According to The Sun, Ron Cox had unsuccessfully applied Cillit Bang when he decided that adding petrol to the mix might do the trick.
As he scrubbed away with the novel compound, the fumes made their way to the living room – and his boiler’s pilot light. The resulting blast blew out his bay window and ruined the ceilings and walls of his home.
“I couldn’t believe the damage,” said Ron. “It was just a cupful. Lucky I was in the kitchen and no one else was in the house.”
Local fire officials said he had a lucky escape, and urged residents not to use petrol as a cleaner.
