Vileda's UltraSpeed mop is seriously fast April 1st 2006 With a name like UltraSpeed, you'd expect Vileda's latest mop and bucket system to be fast. Cleaning Matters editor, Brendan Coyne, had a go at cleaning the floors of the ExCeL exhibition centre at the Windex/Carpex/Hospital Hygiene show in London last month. "Piece of cake," he said.
Two years in development, Vileda has already sold millions of units across Europe. It's easy to see why: two years is a lot of time to take developing a mopping system – the company has literally thought of everything. Based around a purpose developed wringer, break frame handle and high performance microfibre mop pad, there are three different kits to choose from.
Quick and easy to fit, the mop pads boost cleaning performance and can be washed 100 times. The systems funnel press wrings out around a third more water than traditional wringers - meaning less water on the floor – so surfaces dry quicker.
Tested independently in Europe and the UK over a 50 square meter area, UltraSpeed is 51% faster than a kentucky mop and 62% faster than a cotton socket mop. Because it absorbs less moisture, it is also much lighter and more manoeuvrable. The mop's two way action means it can also clean wall's, ceilings and skirting boards.
Colour coded, removable bucket clips mean individually colour coded identification can be snapped on or off the bucket. The microfibre mop pads are also colour tagged – users can simply cut off the colours they don't need.
Available in 15 litre, 25 litre and 2x25 litre double bucket version, the 25l and 2x25l are supplied on a wheeled chassis, while the 15 litre has a chassis conversion kit if required.
The unit retails at £35.95 for the 25l kit or £17.95 for the 15l version. The trade price is also attractive, and for every 10 units purchased, Vileda will include a free unit for demonstration purposes. Although according to product manager, Steve Barber: "It literally sells itself."
