Gum falls under Wizzard’s spell August 31st 2005 Removing gum from pavements is hampered by traditional methods: Hot water pressure washers and steam cleaners using hundreds of gallons of water and large quantities of detergent present a hazard to pedestrians. Consequently, shopping areas have to be cordoned off – limiting gum removal operations to the few hours per day between closing time and the point at which locals may be disturbed by noise. There is also the environmental consideration, with wasted water and detergent needlessly going down the drain.
Nimbus Steamcleaners and Amtech UK have addressed this problem. Gum Wizzard uses super heated steam and an environmentally friendly agent called CGR100. Posing no threat to shoppers, it uses only a few litres of water per day and can be run from a 3.5KVA generator.
Using 160°C super heated steam to soften and lift the gum, the CGR100 emulsifies it, and the Gum Wizzard vacuums up the residue into its 10 litre collection tank. The companies claim it will remove a wad of gum in seconds regardless of surface – and leave no residue.
The unit can also be used as a dry steam cleaning machine – which with single operator use and minimal training requirements – make it an economical and versatile piece of kit, according to Nimbus and Amtech.
