Labour market intelligence available from CINTO February 1st 2004
In July 2003, the Cleaning Industry National Training Organisation (CINTO) commissioned Pye Tait to update their Labour Market Intelligence (LMI) for the cleaning industry. This research has now been completed and the results were presented to cleaning organisations at a conference held at Northampton University on 26th November.
This work updates the labour market information researched by Pye Tait in 1996. It is a highly important piece of work, vital to CINTOs becoming a leading player in the developing Sector Skills Council for Property, Housing, Cleaning and Facilities Management. The production of this data provides CINTO with accurate knowledge and profile of the industry as it is today, thus enabling the development of policies and initiatives which are both relevant and effective for the industry.
The data have been produced as a result of 500 detailed telephone interviews with cleaning industry companies and analysis of leading national statistics. The key issues examined by the LMI are:
The structure of the cleaning workforce; Recruitment practices and problems faced; Skills needs and gaps; The use of cleaning industry qualifications; and Challenges faced by the industry.
Each of these issues are examined not only for the industry as a whole but according to the four countries of the UK, by type and size of employer.
The full data and findings of this are provided in a report. Both this and an Executive Summary are available from CINTO:
