What do you think about this flu?
August 1st 2009

And still the main topic of conversation wherever one goes is Swine Flu – who’s got it, who’ll get it and what are the best ways to prevent it. Having spoken to a few people in the industry, opinions differ.

One contractor confided that he thought certain of his staff were perhaps using the pandemic as an excuse to take a break. He wasn’t happy at all, having had to answer call outs at all hours, due to staff sickness.

However, he did add that clients who had been sticking to a low budget, as anything else was ‘economically unviable’,were now finding the money to spend on extra hygiene measures; desks, lifts, banisters are all now areas which have had an increased cleaning frequency, alongside a growth in sales of wipes, tissues, cleaning sprays and hand hygiene products.

Media coverage of the flu does not seem to have died down, and in fact another contractor I spoke to joked that perhaps it was a government conspiracy to shift the focus from the dire economic circumstances.

Whatever your take, clients are genuinely seeking solutions to the flu.The most important task for the cleaning industry is to make sure that they are informed about the latest solutions and can reassure clients that they are committed to preventing and containing infection through cleaning.
