News in brief
February 1st 2010

BICSc has announced the launch of new Accredited Cleaning Systems Standards for cleaning equipment and systems manufactured and/or marketed by Corporate Members of the Institute.

The standards will provide an assurance of independently field-tested excellence by which to judge the quality and effectiveness of products offered in the professional cleaning market.

The first company to be awarded BICSc Accreditation is Ecolab for its institutional and industrial cleaning and sanitising products.

MITIE has announced a facilities management contract worth £20.4 million per annum with The Cooperative Group. It will be providing a range of cleaning services to Co-operative food retail stores across the UK.

The three-year contract will see MITIE clean more than 2,500 stores and this includes 600 Somerfield stores that MITIE already looks after.

Before this move, The Cooperative Group employed almost 25 regional cleaning contractors and specialist teams.
